The first SIMS Music Summit kicks off today in Medellin
The inaugural SIMS International Music Summit starts today with the promise of world-class musical talent from Colombia and around the world. Organised by the Selina Hospitality Network, the event will bring together Latin American artists and event organisers, producers, publications and record labels from February 28th to March 4th to Poblado,Medellin.
The days will dominated by talks given by major movers and shakers in the music promotion industry on diverse topics that affect it. There will be workshops for agents, promoters, distributors and those interested in music licensing. For example ProColombia, one of the sponsors of the event, is the country’s tourism, foreign investment and public image body and will be running a workshop on “The Future of Music Tourism in Colombia”.
The talks on these various topics will be followed by musical sets by some of Colombia’s hottest talent including the likes of Papá Kumbé, Mitú, Profetas and Mabiland. Many of the acts will take place at Monasterio which was a conjoint effort between Selina and Breakfast Club and has a capacity for 1,200 people.
‘Major Latin artists have been hitting the top charts with their music all over the world and collaborating with the biggest names in popular music for quite a while now.’ Ariel Levinsohn, SIMS founder, said in a press release. “This plus the huge influence of the regions’ indigenous heritage that has taken electronic music by storm from clubs to festivals all over the globe infusing ritualistic, tribal and ancient cultural revival in contemporary electronic sub-genres.“
