James Rodriguez denied today that he criticized his former club, Real Madrid, in a session with the German press. The Colombian superstar is reported to have said that Bayern is a better club than Real Madrid.
“Bayern Munich is just as big a club as Real Madrid, if not even bigger,” he said. “I always had a lot of respect for Bayern but when I was mulling over the move to Munich, I looked at the squad and thought: ‘There’s just as many stars here as at Real and the quality is exactly the same.’”
However James fired back on twitter, writing “That’s a lie. I didn’t say that. I have total respect for Real Madrid! Please, leave me alone, I’ve already left Spain”.
Esto es mentira, no he dicho esto, respeto total por el Madrid! por favor déjenme tranquilo, ya me he ido de España, gracias. 👍🏼 https://t.co/cLF6J0NM40

James, who was born in Cúcuta and who had always dreamt of playing for Real Madrid, fulfilled his dream in 2014. However, he alleged that he didn’t play enough at Real Madrid because the lack of trust that Zinedine Zidane had in him. The two had a difficult relationship during James’ tenure, with James reportedly once lashing out at his coach with profanities following a match with Leganes.
James is still technically a member of Real Madrid, as his move to the German club was facilitated through a loan that lasts through June 30, 2019.
