Direct flights will now be available from Miami, Florida to Santa Marta for the first time. The flights are available through the low-cost Colombian airline VivaAir.

Round trip tickets originating out of Miami are just $174, while those coming from Santa Marta to Miami in a round trip will pay $195.

The flights are made in and out of the Miami International Aiport and Santa Marta’s Simón Bolívar International Airport.

When coming from Miami, the flights are three hours in duration and leave three times per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 10:38 a.m. Flights on the way back leave those same days at 6:20 a.m.

Santa Marta has become a popular spot for international travelers, especially when it comes to the pristine beaches of Tayrona National Park.

It was first put on the map for many U.S. travelers with the 1964 publication of a New York Times travel article that said the following of a relatively untrampled Santa Marta:

“This port on Colombia’s Caribbean coast is just such a haven, providing one is looking for off‐beat charm, untrampled soil and a measure of tranquility.

Santa Marta is a balmy sea town, and was almost unknown until a few years ago. It has a certain touch of colonial drowsiness that tends to put visitors in a languid mood.”

VivaAir is a popular low-budget airline operator based out of Colombia that was started by the same company that owns a European equivalent in RyanAir.
