The Metropolitan Police from the Aburrá Valley had a substantial decrease in violent altercations after the celebrations of Atletico Nacional’s Father’s day victory in the final of the professional Colombian soccer selection against Deportivo Cali on June 18th, according to local reports.
Problem areas during celebrations include the neighborhoods northeast and northwest of Medellin. In those areas, there was a 32% reduction in reported criminal activity in comparison to the team’s last victory in a final. Homicides dropped by 80% as well during the period.
Fans of the two local sports franchises, Atletico Nacional and Independiente Medellin, are notorious for their bad behavior during and following games, and more so during games played in tournaments and finals.
