In another sign that Colombia is rapidly becoming the center of hi-tech in Latin America, Wayra announced today that the 25 companies in its Colombian accelerator generated more than 17.3 million dollars in sales in 2017. Wayra, the startup accelerator of Spanish-based Telefónica Open Future, also said that its companies generated more than 980 jobs and received a combined 4.7 million dollars in investment.
“Every day we see more talent and innovation in the country”, Carlos Castañeda, director of Wayra Colombia, told Colombia’s Dinero magazine. He said that multi-channel platform 1DOC3, which resolves anonymous health questions through verified doctors, closed a $2 million dollar seed round late this year, led by Miami-based theventure.city and Mountain Nazca Ventures.
Alkilautos, a car rental platform in Wayra’s portfolio, grew 390% in 2017 according to the company, awhile Agruppa, a solution that brings organic produce closer to low-income neighborhood stores, raised $510,000 and exceeded $1 million dollars in sales for the year.
